1 number_pizza111 2026/07/26(Sun) 13:34:00 I've been reading a little on a very niche field of math (Cyclotomic polynomials) because I have a professor who's done some work in it. To test out GPT 5.6 I asked it to find and disprove a conjecture in the field, and it actually did. I have a concrete counterexample and I have no idea what to do next. Email the authors with it? This isn't a hot question in math or anything of the sort but it would feel weird to drop it completely.

But yeah, dont drop it in any case.

Well if your professor has done work in the niche, I'd just approach them irl and ask. Can probably point you to the appropriate channels in the field. Just keep a record lest you get "your" research snatched if you worry about that
