Curious how many people here actually go to record stores or otherwise seek out music in-person. Obviously it won't work everywhere, but I've found some pretty good music that I otherwise would have never encountered online.

I haven't. I mostly listen to specific sub-genres of rock and metal which I imagine would be rather obscure. If I ever visit Japan, though...

Anyway!

My dear friend has recently been saying I got the taste of a gloomy, British homosexual or of a gloomy cowboy whenever I turn on music for us. Gloomy either way.
Anyhow, here are Spandau Ballet and David Allan Coe:

There are worse fates to have, I imagine. You could mock a friend for nigh-exclusively listening to Japanese music, then end up falling into the same trap yourself.

On the topic of Japanese music, I do have a certain fondness for Visual Kei, which doesn't really help me beat the accusations.

I do sometimes go to record stores but it's more to find stuff I already know rather than to seek out new music. Vynils are collector's items anyways, I don't think they're anyone's real first choice when it comes to listening to music, it's just to have a nice object.

I used to, but it's just not worth it with college costing so much. I mostly get my music from Soulseek at this point.

Listening omw to work; forgot how much I love 36 Chambers. I really should listen to it more.

Noa Noa - One Summer Love.
The album where this comes from, アジサイ, is great as a whole, but this one in particular stands out to me after a few listens. It just hits that perfect balance characteristic of early 2000's Japanese music (Shibuya-kei, specifically), not too fast, not too slow, jazzy, poppy, melodically interesting. Noa Noa sings in both perfect Portuguese and Japanese in this album, which makes me wonder about her origin and life story. Again, characteristically for many Japanese singers, I searched for and found nothing else apart from this album and passing references to her existence in other Shibuya-kei songs.
