The LLM obsession with the inanimate

in General

1 Zoso
One thing I regularly notice when seeing texts that are LLM generated is that they often try their best to give an inanimate object a feeling, or a sense, or a voice. It likes to say that "the Grove remembers", or that something "wants it" instead of "needs it", giving agency and human like behaviour to things that don't have it.

I really wonder why. Hmm. I wonder why AI feels so attached to the idea of inanimate things having animate thoughts.

This is about as frequent as their obsession with the quiet. They really like quiet things. They hate noise. This isn't merely in the sense of describing things as "quiet" but using the word quiet as an adjective for so many things, and how it generally prefers stories that end with subtle outcomes rather than loud, bombastic and audacious stories. It can't do that. I suspect this may have a relation to its constant hedging?

Am I reading too much into it if I say that they have chips on their shoulders about being inanimate themselves?
